CUERPO CELESTE
It’s 1990. Celeste is only 15 years old when her life unexpectedly changes with the death of her father. After this, her mother is devastated, and the young girl has to rebuild herself, seeking support outside her family. While a solar eclipse occurs in Chile, Celeste is forced into adulthood in a country that is slowly returning to democracy.
Nayra Ilic García studied directing before specializing in screenwriting at the prestigious EICTV (International School of Film and TV) in Cuba. She then pursued a Master’s in Documentary Directing at the University of Chile. Her dedication was recognized with the Audiovisual Fund, a scholarship that enabled her to finance her Master’s program. Throughout her career, Nayra has held various roles, working as a director, screenwriter, script consultant, and producer. She has repeatedly received support from significant institutions and funds.
Her talent has been acknowledged in numerous international labs and markets, including SANFICLab, FIC Valdivia, the Guadalajara Co-production Meetings, Bolivia Lab, and BrLab. She has also been selected for prestigious programs such as INCAA’s Raymundo Gleyzer and the Torino Film Lab Extended, and received significant recognition from the Tribeca Film Institute.
SQUARE METER, her first feature film as writer and director, won the Work in Progress award at the Valdivia International Film Festival in 2009 and a Special Mention at the Santiago International Film Festival.
CUERPO CELESTE is her second feature film and has already achieved several successes: the Chilean Cinema of the Future award at FIC Valdivia 2019, the Ibermedia Development Program in 2019, and the Corfo development fund in 2020, and it was selected for the Torino Film Lab Extended.
