HONEY
Honey, a shy 13-year-old, hides the truth about herself and her chaotic family, struggling to reveal her true self in her new class. She loves playing music – and she’s really talented – but no one knows that yet. All Honey wants is a spot in Liam’s band, “Rock Till We Drop”. So, when she discovers that her supposedly dead, music-loving grandfather Marcel might actually be alive, she sets out to find him. Perhaps he’s exactly what she needs to finally learn to stand up for herself.
Natasha Arthy is a Danish director and screenwriter with a significant career spanning film and television. From 1991 to 1996, she began her journey as a director, writer, and organizer for B&U DR-TV.
In 1997, she directed the short film FANNY FARVELØS, followed by directing the TV series DRENGEN DE KALDTE KYLLING in 1998. The year 2000 marked her feature film debut with MIRAKEL (MIRACLE), which was presented in competition at the Giffoni Film Festival. She went on to direct the films SE TIL VENSTRE, DER ER EN SVENKER (OLD NEW BORROWED AND BLUE) in 2002/2003 and FIGHTER in 2007, for which she also wrote the screenplay.
In television, Arthy has directed and developed the TV series PIP & PAPEGØJE (2004), episodes of LULU & LEON (2008), and FORBRYDELSEN (2012). She also directed the series HEARTLESS (2013), KANONKONGEN FREJA (2016), RITA (2017), and THE RAIN (NETFLIX Original, 2018). More recently, she co-wrote and directed JULEFEBER (2019/2020) for DR and directed CARMEN CURLERS (2021), a DR drama series. In 2012, she also directed the circus performance CIRKUS SUMARUM.
Director's Note
Many years ago, I fell in love with Mette Eike Neerlin’s Hest Hest Tiger Tiger. The story of Honey is freely inspired by this book.
Honey humorously and musically tells of loneliness and lies. Thirteen-year-old Honey lies about herself and her chaotic family, by whom she is greatly challenged. Honey struggles to show who she truly is and what she longs for. Fortunately, she has a strong will, and slowly she finds her own way.
The story is for everyone – children, parents, and grandparents. But I especially hope to reach those children who feel alone, those who don’t have a strong adult in their lives, or who don’t feel seen. Children need hope – perhaps more now than ever before. I hope they will find inspiration and joy in Honey’s strength.
