INUNDATION
11-year-old Kinan lives with a fear of water after a traumatic experience during his escape from Syria. While his father Hasan works hard to build a new life in the Netherlands, Kinan clings to warm memories of home and refuses to accept his new surroundings. When Kinan is confronted with his trauma during his first swimming lesson, he realizes that he must overcome his fear to move forward in life.
In 2016, Ilia graduated with honors from the HKU (University of the Arts Utrecht) as a director and screenwriter with the science fiction film THE I IN ME. In 2017, he received funding from the Dutch Film Fund to create the intimate family drama IN SUMMER, which premiered at the Netherlands Film Festival 2018 and won the Buma Award for Best Composition.
