SMARTIE AND ME
13-year-old Frania seems to have it all yet feels something is missing. Everything changes when she meets Smartie, a stray in need of a home. Taken to a clinic, the dog quickly falls into the wrong hands – the staff care more about money than their furry patients. Determined to save her new friend, Frania stages a daring rescue and sets off on a runaway adventure across the country.
Kacper Lisowski was born in 1972 in Warsaw. He is a cinematographer, screenwriter, and director. He graduated from the Cinematography Department at the Polish National Film School in Łódź (PWSFTviT), and the Wajda School in Warsaw.
Lisowski has many years of experience as a cinematographer on international productions. He made his directorial debut with the documentary WHISKY WITH MILK (2012). His short fiction film FATHER’S DAY (2014) earned him, among other awards, the Silver Lajkonik at the Krakow Film Festival and the Étudiant de Jeunesse Award in Clermont-Ferrand. In 2018, he directed the feature-length documentary WORLD CHAMPION. His documentary JUDGES UNDER PRESSURE, which he directed and shot, received a nomination for the Polish Film Academy Award (Orły) in 2022.
In 2026, Lisowski made his feature fiction debut as the screenwriter and director of SMARTIE AND ME.
Kacper Lisowski is a member of the Polish Film Academy and the European Film Academy.
Director’s Note
After accidentally hitting a stray dog, thirteen-year-old Frania is swept into a series of events that will change her life forever.
Determined to save Smartie, the dog who quickly becomes her best friend, Frania is forced to break the law and set off on an adventure of her own. As videos of her journey go viral, Frania becomes an online sensation—and the most wanted teenager in the country.
