Super Furball and the Lying Squirrel
The film tells the story of Emilia, Simo, and Rasva-Antero. Emilia (11) has gained a secret
ability from her pet guinea pig’s bite: she can transform into Super Furball, a fluffy hero whose mission is to help animals. Her best friend is Simo, the class genius. Her archenemy, however, is Greasy-Antero, the son of the richest man in town and the school’s worst bully, who teams up with his best friend, Pietari.
Just when everyone is worried about the uncertain fate of the nearby forest and the animals that live there, the source of Emilia’s superpowers falls into the wrong hands. How will our heroine help her beloved animals this time?
Joona Tena is an experienced director and screenwriter working across both film and television. For Yellow Film & TV, he has directed the start-up comedy feature THE POTATO ADVENTURE as well as both previous SUPER FURBALL films. He has also launched several successful TV series as a director, including ROBA and NURSES. His screenwriting credits include the children’s feature UNNA AND NUUK, which screened at the Giffoni Film Festival in 2006 and was nominated for Finland’s prestigious Jussi Award, as well as the international TV co-production ARCTIC CIRCLE. With SUPER FURBALL AND THE LYING SQUIRREL, Tena concludes the SUPER FURBALL trilogy, combining ecological themes, family adventure, and visually inventive storytelling through a mix of live-action, animation, and CGI. His directing style blends fast-paced entertainment with emotionally grounded stories that never underestimate young audiences.
Director’s Note
This third Super Furball film completes the trilogy: first the sea was saved, then the bees, and now the forest. Where the earlier adventures took us into the ocean and the sky, this one is firmly rooted in the ground. As with the previous Super Furball films, our goal has been to create a fast-paced story that never underestimates children’s ability to follow contemporary storytelling, or their readiness to reflect on even the most complex issues. From the very beginning, the Super Furball trilogy has been an ambitious project — one where the entire team has aspired to deliver a layered, exciting, and engaging cinematic experience for the whole family. […] As a director, I also find it important that the film reflects our own Finnish, human-centered voice. And while the environmental issues raised in the story are grounded in reality, they are presented as a child’s fairytale experience — with everyday struggles, actions, and choices that are no less challenging or meaningful than any super-adventure.
