The film in competition on July 22, 2023

The third day of screenings for Giffoni Film Festival’s jurors will be filled with pieces that will bring together young people from Italy and the rest of the world, to share opinions and reflections with the rest of the group and the artists involved in the scheduled films.

The first screening of the day is in Sala Truffaut at 10 a.m. for the Generator +13 jurors, with the film A SUMMER IN BOUJAD (Morocco, France, Belgium, 2022), directed by Omar Mouldouira. Thirteen-year-old Karim, seven years after his mother’s death, leaves Paris with his father to move to Morocco. The man made his decision because he has another partner and other children. Spending the summer in the Moroccan town of Boujad means getting to know his country of origin and the members of his new family. Meanwhile, Karim’s father will have to deal with the first signs of rebellion from his son.

Next, it will be the turn of the Generator +16 section to take their seats at 2.45 p.m. in the historic Festival Hall, to watch the film I LIKE MOVIE (Canada, 2022), directed by Chandler Levack. American Lawrence Kweller dreams of enrolling in a film school so – in order to save some money – he takes a job at a local video store. However, this new dimension leads him to isolate himself from his friends and the rest of the world, leading him to spend his time only with the older manager, Alana.

For the Elements +10 jurors, in Sala Alberto Sordi at 10 a.m. and again at 5 p.m., the film LIONESS (Netherlands, 2023), directed by Raymond Grimbergen will start. Rosi is a 14-year-old girl with a brilliant career as a footballer ahead of her. Despite her great talent, she struggles to integrate with the other members of the team due to her constant success on the field.

Sala Lumière will open its doors at 10 a.m. and then at 4 p.m. for the young jurors of the Elements +6 section with the feature film COCO FARM (Canada), by Sebastien Gagné. Max is a very young wine entrepreneur in a countryside village. When he discovers some chickens in an old barn, he realizes that it’s time to go into business with his cousin. In order to reach as many customers as possible, they decide to seek the help of YouTuber Alice.

The jurors from the older section of the Festival, the Generator +18, will be able to watch WE WILL NEVER BELONG (Mexico, 2022), by director Amelia Eloisa. The relationship of Emi’s mother with another woman leads the teenager into initial confusion, soon replaced by a desire to find peace in her life. For this reason, she decides to return to her hometown and live with her father and grandmother. When Emi meets her step-sister, it will trigger a multitude of questions about her sexual orientation.

Also, in Sala Galileo at 4 p.m., there will be a special event for the Parental Experience, promoted by Dynamo Camp, titled A WONDERFUL ADVENTURE (Italy, 2023), directed by Graziano Conversano. A feature film that aims to highlight all that Dynamo Camp does for children and teenagers affected by serious illnesses, offering free therapies and assistance to families.

In Sala Verde, another film will be screened for the Parental ExperienceSHARK TEETH (Italy, 2023), directed by Davide Gentile. Walter is a 13-year-old boy who has lost his father. While walking aimlessly, he comes across an old, completely abandoned villa that will give Walter the best gift ever.

Please note that for these last two screenings, admission is free until all seats are taken, with priority given to the parents of the jurors from the Elements +6 and Elements +10 sections.
